Symbius Medical customers traditionally obtain a referral from a physician’s office, a hospital, or a clinic when they are in need of medical supplies. 99.9 percent of Symbius’s business is prescription driven or referral driven. The company works with a variety of insurance companies to make sure that their customers needs are covered.

Traditionally most of the products that are used by customers are rented. The Symbius Medical rule of thumb is that if it plugs into the wall it is usually rented. So, the home oxygen concentrators and the CPAP devices, and respiratory machines and are typically rented monthly. Once the customer has rented the product for a certain amount of months, it automatically converts in to a purchase. On the soft goods side of things, many of the products are single patient use items, meaning once it’s delivered to the home, it’s sold. Typically, it’ has been paid for by the insurance carrier or the end user. Although there are some exceptions most products are on a rental fee schedule with the insurance plan.

Symbius Medical has three operating facilities, one in Phoenix, Salt Lake City and San Diego, as well as many other smaller facilities. The company also has sales representatives throughout the country selling urological supplies, or soft goods. All orders for medical supplies are shipped to the customer’s home within 25 to 48 hours of the order.
